El Alma Del Pueblo - Folk Art Exhibition
In the Spring of 2001 the Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) was
a three-storied building with one gallery on the second floor, one gallery
on the third and no freight elevators. The ill-suited CAFAM was selected as
the final tour stop of the El Alma Del Pueblo exhibition by the San Antonio
Museum of Art. With over 300 art objects and three distinct story lines for
this show, a complete revision of CAFAM’s interiors would be needed for the
volume and story line of the “El Alma”. So it was with surprise and proud
distinction that the CAFAM presentation of El Alma Del Pueblo was hailed by
Marion Oettinger, the project curator, as the best of its 15-city national
tour.
