Technology Timeline
Cisco Systems is internationally recognized as the global leader in much of the routing services, systems and software that drives today's world-wide web. To help train and orient their international service providers Cisco created this Executive Briefing Center at their corporate headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The technology timeline, interactive stations, corporate signage system, and employees recognition areas were developed as an interpretive journey for these distinguished world visitors and an unexpected respite from the "computer-screen" world of the briefing center's daily business.
The time line is told through personal stories of ten people spanning the past 100 years. Each person compares two technologies that were "state-of-the-art" when they were kids. A middle aged man holding a vinyl LP explains that "...when I was a kid, my dad watched Sinatra on our new black and white TV and then went to the store and bought the LP". Today, TV technology is still with us but LPs are considered relics of past.
The rise of Cisco Systems occurs in the last quarter of this time line to punctuate the mercurial rise of global internet technology and Cisco's central role in that technological evolution.
