Cultural Pavilion-2004 Winter Olympics
Discover Navajo: People Of The Fourth World exhibition and event was the only sanctioned cultural pavilion at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. This 15,000 sq. ft. interactive exhibition and surrounding 100,000 sq. ft. of event grounds marked an important milestone in the history of these native peoples. For the first time, in its own words, the Navajo people told their story to the world.
This cultural pavilion and event were created to provide Olympic visitors from around the world a glimpse into the art, history, culture and beliefs known as Diné (Navajo). This was a unique opportunity for world visitors to interact with Navajo rug weavers, basket makers, silversmiths, medicine men, WWII Code Talkers, performers and important Navajo dignitaries and the common Navajo man and woman during this world-stage event. This compelling look at Navajo people, its society, accomplishments and historic contributions, was created with the help of leading Navajo scholars, museum professionals, and the Navajo artistic community to provide a vibrant experience for peoples of all ages, and all nations.
